This article considers the nature of miscarriages of justice, the role of each major category of criminal justice official, the means available to each to manage miscarriages of justice, and the social costs associated with each major type of miscarriage. The article concludes with a statement about where the needs appear greatest for identifying miscarriages of justice and opportunities for managing them.
